How do you make tasty THC syrup?

Edibles are a popular form of cannabis use. It is therefore no higher math to make your own cannabis edibles from your favorite weed. Perhaps the easiest, but also the most versatile edible is THC syrup. Making it requires few skills and is also done in no time. If you want to know how, read on below.

What is THC Syrup?

THC syrup is a sweet edible made from sugar, water, weed and any flavorings. This delicious syrup can be used as a sweetener in tea or coffee, over pancakes or cake, or simply in a glass of water or soda. Besides being a great seasoning that is extremely versatile, you will also experience the well-known (or infamous) THC kick. There is no better combination! The appearance of cannabis syrups often resembles maple syrup or cough syrup. It usually has a clear or golden color and a rich, thick texture. It is possible and even desirable to add various aromatic ingredients to the recipe. Think, for example, of vanilla and lemon zest, or spices such as cloves and star anise. Unleash your culinary creativity to perfect your own custom cannabis syrup.

Use case

It is recommended to use THC syrup in moderation, due to its high sugar content and strong psychoactive effects. With edibles it is very important to pay close attention to the dosage, because it can take a long time before the first effects are noticeable. Although the effects come on faster with syrup, it can still last at least an hour. As with other edibles, the effects are long-lasting. Therefore, be patient before taking a second dose so that you can wait for the first effects and not take too high a dose right away.

Recipe for THC syrup

Below is a simple recipe with which you can make your own cannabis syrup at home in no time, completely to your own taste.

Ingredients

  • 720 ml water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable glycerin
  • 2 grams of finely ground cannabis buds
  • 600 grams of sugar
  • Spices (e.g. cinnamon sticks, cloves, vanilla, lemon zest, etc.)

Supplies

  • Saucepan
  • sieve
  • Cheesecloth
  • Glass jar/bottle

Step 1:

Grind your selected cannabis buds and spread them out on a baking tray with baking paper on it. Place the baking tray with weed in a preheated oven at 30 degrees Celsius for about 110 minutes. The process that initiates this is known as “decarboxylation”, which activates the cannabinoids in the dried weed. This will make your syrup strong. Note: remove the weed from the oven after about 20 minutes to rearrange it on the baking tray. The decarboxylation process is complete when your kitchen starts to smell a bit like weed.

Step 2:

Combine water, sugar and any seasonings in a saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat. When it starts to boil, reduce the heat and stir until all the sugar has dissolved.

Step 3:

Add the activated weed to the boiling mixture and cook for 30 minutes. Keep stirring the mixture constantly. Then add the vegetable glycerin and cook for another 5 minutes. Then remove the pan from the heat.

Step 4:

Let the syrup cool completely. Then strain the mixture through a sieve with a cheesecloth to remove all vegetable matter and other bits. Pour it into a glass jar or bottle and it's ready to use!
