What is Algae Oil?

Algae are microscopic plants that are at the very bottom of the food chain and produce Omega 3 fatty acids themselves. They are therefore the primary source of the Omega 3 fatty acids DHA and EPA. Oily fish such as herring and sardines are rich in Omega 3 because they eat algae as food.

Vegan Algae Oil is an Omega 3 supplement from sustainably farmed algae. The fermentation process of the algae takes place in a closed, clean environment. The algae oil is therefore free of contamination.

These algae oil capsules contain 375 mg DHA & 125 mg EPA per capsule.

EPA & DHA

EPA and DHA are Omega 3 fatty acids that contribute to the maintenance of normal blood pressure (when taking 3 grams of EPA and DHA per day, do not take more than 5 mg combined). EPA and DHA also have a beneficial effect on the heart (with 250 mg EPA & DHA per day). In addition, DHA is good for the brain and vision (at 250 mg per day).

TOTOX value Algae oil

The TOTOX value (total oxidation value) indicates the degree of fatty acid oxidation. This value has nothing to do with spoilage, but with how old the oil is. As the oil ages, the TOTOX value increases. The European guideline has been set at a maximum TOTOX value of 26. Our algae oil has a TOTOX value of <6.

The response to the TOTOX value can differ per person: some people have no problems with a high TOTOX value, while others already suffer from regurgitation with a low TOTOX value.

Some brands use chemicals to reduce and keep the TOTOX value of algae or fish oils low. We do not have these chemicals in our capsules.
