What is Maca?
Maca is a root vegetable from the Andes Mountains in Peru and the only edible plant that grows at this altitude (3000-4500 meters). Maca is also called the 'Ginseng of the Andes' and 'Mood food'. It was used by the Incas and was mainly regarded as a delicacy due to its sweet taste. Maca is available in 3 colours. The yellow variety is best known, red Maca has the most active substances and black Maca is the rarest. Maca naturally has a caramel-like taste.
Adaptogenic
Maca is an adaptogen. Adaptogens are non-toxic plants that help the body. They are meant to bring us back to a level of homeostasis in the body. The herbs and roots have been used in China and Ayurveda for centuries. Nowadays they are also on the rise in the Western world.
